Eagle Square has witnessed heightened security presence as preparations intensify for the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress scheduled to begin on March 27.
The venue is already active, decorated in party colours, with structures and pavilions arranged for delegates from across the country. Areas designated for voting have been clearly marked, reflecting readiness for the exercise.
Security operatives drawn from multiple agencies, including the police, DSS, and civil defence corps, have been deployed around the area. Major access roads leading to the venue have been barricaded, with strict movement control in place, forcing many residents to walk to their destinations.
Officials overseeing logistics were also seen inspecting facilities to ensure everything is set before the event kicks off.
Over 8,000 delegates from all 36 states and the FCT are expected to attend the convention, alongside President Bola Tinubu, governors, and top government officials.
The ruling party has indicated it will adopt a consensus method in selecting its leadership, describing it as part of efforts to maintain unity and order within its ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.
