An emergency meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki and supported by the party’s Board of Trustees under Adolphus Wabara, is currently taking place in Abuja as internal tensions continue ahead of the planned national convention.

The meeting, held at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge, is the third gathering of its kind this week, with discussions largely centred on the controversy surrounding the proposed convention being organised by the caretaker committee led by Abdulrahman Mohamed.

The rival faction, which has the backing of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, has maintained that the convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 must go ahead as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party.

Key party figures, including former governors Babangida Aliyu and Ibrahim Shekarau, as well as elder statesman Jerry Gana, are participating in the meeting aimed at resolving the leadership crisis. Turaki informed members that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had sent his apologies for being absent, while Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed was expected to join the session.

He noted that members would receive updates on reconciliation efforts during a closed-door session, expressing optimism that the party can overcome its internal challenges. Turaki assured stakeholders that efforts are ongoing to stabilise the party and ensure it remains competitive ahead of the 2027 general elections.
