President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has affirmed that he will respect and implement the final ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) regarding Senegal’s appeal over the controversial Africa Cup of Nations final.

Speaking after a CAF executive meeting in Cairo, Motsepe stressed that his personal opinion does not matter, insisting that the decision of CAS would be fully upheld. The dispute arose after CAF’s appeals body overturned Senegal’s 1-0 victory over Morocco in the final and instead awarded Morocco a 3-0 win.

The final itself had been marred by controversy, as Senegal players and officials briefly walked off the pitch following a late penalty awarded to Morocco. Although Brahim Díaz missed the spot kick, Pape Gueye later scored in extra time to secure what was initially declared a Senegal victory.

Despite the reversal, Senegal have continued to act as champions, even parading the trophy during a friendly match in Paris and wearing jerseys with two stars—one for their 2022 win and another for the disputed 2026 title.

Motsepe also revealed plans to visit both Senegal and Morocco to promote unity, while CAF announced it is reviewing its rules and procedures to restore confidence in officiating, VAR operations, and disciplinary processes.

In a related development, Nigeria-born football administrator Samson Adamu has been appointed caretaker general secretary of CAF, replacing retiring Veron Mosengo-Omba.
