Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, is set to lead over 2,500 delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to its national convention in Abuja, where members of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led caretaker committee are expected to be confirmed as substantive members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The convention, scheduled to hold at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, is expected to formally install Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman, alongside Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary and other key officials.Wike insisted the convention would go ahead as planned despite ongoing legal challenges, including suits filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja and the Ebonyi State High Court seeking to stop the exercise.

The plaintiffs, including state party chairmen from Edo, Kaduna, and Anambra, are asking the court to restrain leaders of the Wike-backed faction from holding the convention or presenting themselves as party leaders.

Despite this, Wike maintained that the PDP remains united and prepared, stating that reconciliation efforts with aggrieved members would continue after the convention.

He also expressed confidence that the party would surprise Nigerians in the 2027 general elections, noting that zoning arrangements for key positions had already been agreed across regions.

According to him, the presidency remains zoned to the South, while the party chairmanship is zoned to the North, with all logistical arrangements for the convention nearly complete.
