The Amotekun Corps in Ondo State has arrested 35 individuals linked to crimes including kidnapping, human trafficking, rape, armed robbery, and public order violations. The corps also rescued victims and recovered stolen property during operations across the state.
Commander Adetunji Adeleye said 11 suspects were connected to kidnapping, three to human trafficking, and two to rape, while the remainder were involved in other criminal activities. One notable human trafficking case involved a victim defrauded of 1.4 million CFA under the guise of obtaining a Canadian visa; the victim was rescued and reunited with her family.
The corps also recovered two kidnapped victims, a father and son, and a stolen Lexus Jeep in separate operations. Adeleye highlighted arrests related to motorcycle theft, housebreaking during religious gatherings, and attempted rape cases.
He attributed the recent reduction in crime to the enforcement of Ondo State’s ban on night-time commercial motorcycle operations, noting that over 120 motorcycles were impounded and about 14,000 riders had registered in compliance. Adeleye warned that enforcement will continue, urging residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
