The Christian Association of Nigeria has called on churches nationwide to remain vigilant and take proactive security measures following the killing of over 40 people in Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, on Palm Sunday, was described by CAN as tragic and unacceptable, noting that the victims included innocent men, women, and children.
CAN President, Daniel Okoh, said the incident reflects a disturbing pattern of violence, lamenting that a day meant for peace and reflection turned into one of bloodshed.
He urged Christians to remain prayerful but also alert during Holy Week activities, including Good Friday and Easter services, advising churches to work closely with security agencies to safeguard congregations.
Okoh also raised concern over reports that the attackers wore fake military uniforms, describing it as a dangerous trend that undermines public trust, and called for a thorough investigation.
He stressed that Nigerians are weary of recurring violence and demanded swift arrest and prosecution of those responsible, adding that beyond temporary measures, lasting security solutions are urgently needed.
