Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday met with Caleb Mutfwang at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following recent deadly attacks in Jos.
The meeting comes days after a Palm Sunday attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, where at least 28 people were killed. Governor Mutfwang arrived at the Villa around 6:45 p.m. for discussions prompted by growing security concerns in Plateau State.
Earlier, the President had summoned the governor to address the deteriorating situation. He condemned the killings, describing them as barbaric, and assured that those responsible would face justice.
Through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu also denounced a separate attack in Kahir village in Kaduna State, where wedding guests were reportedly killed and abducted.
The President warned against framing the violence along religious lines, cautioning that such narratives could further inflame tensions. He also directed security agencies to intensify efforts to track down those behind the attacks while commending the Plateau State government’s response so far.
The Abuja meeting is expected to focus on urgent security strategies to prevent further violence in the state.
In a significant shift of plans, Tinubu has postponed his scheduled visit to Iperu, where he was to inaugurate operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport. Instead, he will travel to Jos on Thursday to sympathise with victims and show solidarity with the people of Plateau State.
According to Onanuga, the visit underscores the President’s commitment to addressing the crisis and supporting affected communities in the aftermath of the attacks.
