The Nigeria Police Force in Katsina State has presented welfare cheques totaling over ₦13.3 million to families of officers who lost their lives in active service, as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
At a ceremony held at the Command Headquarters in Katsina, the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, handed over cheques amounting to ₦13,353,589.45 to 32 beneficiaries, comprising next of kin of deceased officers.
Fage praised the fallen officers for their dedication, resilience, and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, noting that their service to the nation would not be forgotten. He described the welfare package as a gesture of support from the police leadership to families left behind.
The event formed part of broader activities commemorating National Police Day 2026, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust.” According to the police chief, the command also undertook several outreach initiatives, including sanitation exercises at public motor parks, medical outreach programmes, and distribution of treated mosquito nets and medications at the Emir’s Palace.
He further disclosed that public enlightenment campaigns were conducted on issues such as drug abuse, traffic regulations, and electoral offences, aimed at strengthening community engagement and awareness.
Fage assured serving officers that welfare improvements remain a priority and pledged that existing support systems would be reviewed and strengthened. He also called for increased collaboration with the media to ensure transparency and proper coverage of police activities, adding that the command remains open to addressing complaints against officers.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Zainab Bishir, expressed gratitude for the support, stating that the funds would be invested in business ventures to provide for her children and sustain her family after the loss of her husband.
