The Nigeria Police Force in Plateau State has arrested a suspected fake soldier and five other individuals linked to unrest in Jos.
Police spokesperson Alfred Alabo confirmed the arrests, revealing that the fake soldier was apprehended in Angwan Rukuba—the same community recently hit by a deadly attack that left dozens dead and injured.
According to the police, the suspect was seen roaming suspiciously while dressed in military-style clothing and was found carrying a fake Nigerian Military School identity card.
Alabo also disclosed that five other suspects were arrested for exploiting the tense situation to commit crimes across the Jos metropolis. He described them as hoodlums who targeted residents, particularly around the Terminus area, snatching bags and money from unsuspecting victims.
Security operatives were quickly deployed to affected areas, successfully dispersing the criminals and restoring calm. The police have since strengthened security presence in key locations, including areas around the university and other strategic points.
Residents have been urged to remain calm but vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to authorities promptly.
Police authorities emphasized that efforts are ongoing to maintain peace and prevent any further breakdown of law and order in the state.
