President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new leadership changes in key government institutions, appointing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) while renewing the tenure of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engineer Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz.
The announcement was made by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, who confirmed that the appointments take immediate effect.
Professor Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who stepped down from the role to pursue his political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State. Prior to this appointment, Aliyu served as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, bringing with him extensive experience in academia, administration, and institutional leadership.
According to the presidency, his selection reflects a deliberate effort to strengthen capacity development within Nigeria’s petroleum sector. He is expected to drive innovation, enhance human capital development, and reposition the PTDF to better support the country’s oil and gas industry in line with national priorities.
In a related development, President Tinubu also approved the renewal of Engineer Abdulaziz’s appointment as head of the Transmission Company of Nigeria for a second and final term. The decision followed what officials described as a thorough evaluation of his performance overseeing the national grid.
Under his leadership, the TCN has recorded improvements in transmission capacity, grid stability, and system modernisation—key areas critical to Nigeria’s electricity value chain.
The President urged both appointees to approach their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong commitment to national service, emphasizing alignment with his administration’s broader economic and development agenda.
