Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening security operations, pledging sustained support for law enforcement agencies battling banditry and other crimes in the state.

The governor gave this assurance during a visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in Abuja, where he emphasized that security remains a top priority under his government’s development agenda.

Aliyu disclosed that since assuming office, his administration has consistently provided logistical support to security agencies, including the procurement and distribution of over 200 patrol vehicles to boost operational capacity, especially in areas heavily affected by banditry.

He stressed that safeguarding lives and property is a shared responsibility, not solely that of the Federal Government, noting that his administration is determined to deepen collaboration with the police and other security agencies.

Despite ongoing security challenges, the governor acknowledged the progress made so far by security forces in curbing banditry and urged them to sustain the momentum. He highlighted intelligence gathering and effective information sharing as key strategies for achieving lasting success.

Aliyu also called for stronger inter-agency cooperation, stating that improved synergy among security outfits would enhance results in tackling criminal activities across the state.

He commended former Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa for his contributions to security efforts and urged the newly posted Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Hassan, to demonstrate similar dedication and professionalism.

In response, IGP Disu praised the Sokoto State government for its continued support and assured that the Nigeria Police Force would maintain close collaboration with the state to improve security and work towards making the state safer for residents.

The governor was accompanied on the visit by senior government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government and his Chief of Staff.
