At least 11 people have been confirmed dead and about 52 houses razed following a violent communal clash in Nasarawa State, according to the Nigeria Police.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of April 3, 2026, affected Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area. Authorities say the violence was triggered by a reprisal assault linked to the earlier killing of two individuals from a rival group.
Police Commissioner Shetima Jauro-Mohammed visited the affected areas, where he met with community stakeholders and urged residents to remain calm while cooperating with security agencies.
In a statement by police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel, the command confirmed that a manhunt has been launched to track down those responsible for the killings and widespread destruction.
Security has since been reinforced in the area with support from the military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to restore order.
Authorities say normalcy is gradually returning, with measures in place to prevent further violence.
