Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has stepped down as Minister of State for Labour and Employment, describing her time in office under Bola Ahmed Tinubu as an honour and privilege. In her resignation statement, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and emphasized that her exit marks “a new beginning” rather than an end to her public service.
She thanked staff of the Labour Ministry and her constituents in Isuikwuato/Umunneochi for their support, noting that their collaboration helped advance policies on workers’ rights, workplace safety, and employment.
Her resignation comes in line with a federal directive requiring political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to step down by March 31, 2026. The move is part of efforts to ensure a level playing field ahead of the elections.
Onyejeocha joins a growing list of officials exiting government roles to pursue political ambitions, signaling early realignments and intensifying activity ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
