President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with families affected by the March 29 killings in Plateau State at the Jos airport, a decision his aide says was driven by timing and logistical challenges.

The President visited the state days after the attack in Jos North Local Government Area that left at least 28 people dead. His engagement with victims, however, took place at the airport rather than within the city, drawing mixed reactions.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga explained that a prior meeting with Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno delayed Tinubu’s departure from Abuja.

He added that the Jos airport lacks facilities for night operations, making it impractical for the President to travel into the city and return before dusk. As a result, representatives of the affected communities were brought to a hall near the airport for the meeting.

Tinubu, who had initially planned a separate trip to Ogun State, redirected his schedule after being briefed on the Plateau situation by Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

During the visit, the President consoled victims, including a woman seen in a viral video mourning her son, and assured families of government support. He also announced plans to deploy 5,000 surveillance cameras to strengthen security.
