Atlético’s challenge took a hit when Nicolás González was sent off before halftime, leaving them a man down as Barcelona dominated the second half.
The win also saw Barcelona capitalise on Real Madrid’s 2–1 loss to Mallorca, extending their lead at the top to seven points with eight matches remaining.
