The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced it will begin a nationwide voter revalidation exercise on April 13, 2026, as part of efforts to clean up and strengthen Nigeria’s voter register.
According to the commission, the exercise will target voters registered between 2011 and 2024, aiming to remove ineligible entries such as deceased persons, underage registrants, non-Nigerians, and cases of multiple registration.
The process will be carried out in phases, starting at Local Government Areas, moving to Registration Areas, then polling units, before returning to LGAs. INEC clarified that the exercise is not a fresh registration but a verification and update of existing records.
Voters will be able to complete the process both online and physically through biometric verification, including facial recognition, at designated centres.
The commission warned that failure to participate may affect voter eligibility, urging Nigerians to take part as the exercise runs daily, including weekends and public holidays.
