Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed a widely circulated statement falsely attributed to him, describing it as part of a deliberate campaign to damage his reputation and mislead the public.
The viral quote claimed the minister said he had “accumulated enough money to never be broke again.” Adelabu firmly denied ever making such a remark, stressing that it is entirely fabricated and should be disregarded.
In a statement issued by his media aide, the minister raised concerns about what he called a sustained and coordinated disinformation effort. He noted that the false quote followed a previously circulated fake resignation letter, suggesting a pattern aimed at undermining his credibility.
According to the statement, the repeated spread of such falsehoods points to an orchestrated attempt to tarnish both his personal image and the integrity of his office through fake news.
The minister’s camp linked the misinformation campaign to growing political speculation around his potential governorship ambition in Oyo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC). While Adelabu has not officially declared his candidacy, his rising profile has reportedly unsettled certain political interests.
Adelabu warned that the spread of misinformation not only affects individuals but also erodes public trust, urging Nigerians to verify information before sharing and to reject fabricated narratives.
