The Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, has called for practical legal training as a key step toward improving Nigeria’s justice system.

Speaking in Abuja through his representative at the Administration of Criminal Justice Academy Moot Competition, Fagbemi stressed the need to move beyond classroom-based learning to real-world legal experience for young lawyers.

He noted that strengthening the justice system depends on developing skilled, ethical, and reform-minded practitioners capable of effectively applying laws such as the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

Fagbemi warned that without competent legal professionals, even well-designed reforms may fail to achieve their intended impact within the justice sector.

The event, organised by the Juristrust Centre in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation, focused on bridging gaps between legal theory and practice.

Participants were exposed to courtroom simulations and practical exercises aimed at improving advocacy skills, critical thinking, and professional ethics.

Stakeholders at the event emphasised that strengthening legal education and mentorship is essential to building public trust and ensuring effective justice delivery in Nigeria.
