President Bola Tinubu has vowed that Nigeria will defeat terrorism following a deadly Boko Haram attack in Borno State that claimed the lives of Brigadier General Oseni Braimah and several soldiers.

The attack targeted troops of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai in Benisheikh, where insurgents stormed a military position in a coordinated assault.

Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed grief over the loss and commended the bravery of the fallen soldiers.

He said the sacrifices of the troops would not be forgotten, stressing that their courage remains central to Nigeria’s fight against insurgency.

The President described the attack as a sign of desperation by terrorists who have recently suffered heavy losses from military operations.

He urged the Armed Forces to remain resolute and not be discouraged by setbacks in the battlefield.

Tinubu also extended condolences to the families of the slain soldiers and the government of Borno State, assuring them of continued federal support.

He further called on Nigerians and the media to support the military and avoid any actions that glorify attacks on security personnel.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed the attack and said troops engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle before suffering casualties.

Military authorities also urged the public and media to follow proper procedures when reporting deaths of serving officers, especially regarding notification of families.

According to the military, the insurgents attempted to breach the brigade’s defensive perimeter but were repelled after a coordinated response by troops.

The Armed Forces reiterated that operations are ongoing in the area to track fleeing terrorists and prevent regrouping.
