The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed as false and misleading a viral video claiming terrorists were attacking Abuja, saying the footage was manipulated to spread panic among residents of the Federal Capital Territory.
Police confirmed the arrest of one Pam Joseph, alleged to have created and circulated the deceptive clips, which falsely claimed that about 1,000 chained and blindfolded terrorist suspects were flown into Abuja aboard a Nigerian Air Force aircraft. According to investigators, the video was fabricated using unrelated online footage with added gunshot sound effects to create a fake terror narrative.
Authorities explained that the scenes likely showed the lawful movement of terrorism suspects being transported for ongoing Boko Haram trials in Abuja, not an active security threat. The Attorney General had earlier disclosed that about 500 Boko Haram suspects are currently facing trial in the Federal High Court in Maitama.
The police warned that spreading false security information threatens public peace and national safety, urging Nigerians to verify content before sharing it online. The suspect remains in custody and will be charged after investigations are concluded.
