China has dismissed accusations by the United States that it is intensifying military pressure on Taiwan, describing the claims as distorted and politically motivated.
Speaking in Beijing, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, said some American officials were deliberately exaggerating the “mainland threat” narrative to interfere in China’s domestic affairs.
Chen insisted that Taiwan remains an internal Chinese matter and warned that Beijing would not accept foreign interference under any circumstances.
He also urged Washington to act cautiously and responsibly in its handling of Taiwan-related issues amid rising regional tensions.
The remarks come as China continues expanded military operations around Taiwan, including recent war games and live-fire exercises, moves that have drawn criticism from the United States.
Beijing has repeatedly opposed US arms sales to Taiwan, even as Washington remains the island’s strongest international backer.
The latest dispute follows renewed US calls for China to reduce military pressure and reopen dialogue with Taiwan, while Beijing continues to reject engagement with Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, whom it considers a separatist leader.
China maintains that reunification with Taiwan remains its long-term objective and says it prefers peaceful means, though it has not ruled out the use of force.
