Nigeria’s crude oil production rose by 69,000 barrels per day in March 2026, reaching 1.383 million bpd, according to the latest Monthly Oil Market Report released by OPEC.

The increase marks an improvement from February’s output of 1.314 million bpd, but still leaves Nigeria below its OPEC production quota of 1.5 million bpd.

Despite the recovery, production remains lower than the 1.459 million bpd recorded in January, underscoring Nigeria’s continued struggle to consistently meet its assigned target.

The shortfall has largely been attributed to aging infrastructure, insecurity in oil-producing areas, and technical disruptions, all of which continue to hinder output growth.

OPEC data showed that while Nigeria posted gains in March, several African producers recorded mixed performances, with Algeria and Congo also reporting slight increases in production.

Meanwhile, plans for the $25 billion Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline are progressing, with an intergovernmental agreement expected to be signed later this year. The 6,900-kilometre pipeline project is designed to strengthen regional energy integration and expand gas supply across West Africa and into Europe.
