The Industrial Training Fund (ITF) and the Cement Technology Institute of Nigeria (CTIN) have unveiled a nationwide initiative to train 100,000 artisans, targeting critical skill shortages in Nigeria’s construction sector.
The programme, set to launch on April 21 in Lagos, will focus on trades such as masonry, carpentry, tiling, electrical work, plumbing, and finishing, with training to be delivered in phases across the country.
Officials say the initiative is designed to tackle poor workmanship and substandard building practices, which have been linked to the rising cases of building collapse in Nigeria.
ITF Director General Afiz Ogun described the partnership as a strategic move to upgrade technical skills, improve construction standards, and boost employability among artisans.
The programme will also support certification and continuous professional development, while aligning with the existing Skill Up Artisans (SUPA) scheme to enhance training quality and industry relevance.
Stakeholders believe the initiative will strengthen the construction value chain, raise professional standards, and restore confidence in building safety nationwide.
