Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has dismissed reports claiming a ban on airtime borrowing and data advance services, describing them as false and misleading.
The Commission clarified that no directive has been issued restricting access to these telecom services, stressing that they remain available to consumers.
It explained that the confusion stems from regulatory measures introduced in 2025 to address complaints about hidden charges, poor transparency, and unfair practices in the digital lending space.
According to the FCCPC, the regulations are aimed at improving fairness, accountability, and consumer protection—not banning services.
It added that any temporary suspension by telecom operators is due to business or compliance decisions, not regulatory action.
