Public affairs analyst Udenta Udenta has stated that a presidential ticket combining a strong southern figure like Peter Obi with a credible northern running mate could unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Udenta argued that Nigeria’s current political climate favours a united opposition built on regional balance, stressing that Obi remains the most prominent opposition figure in the South.

He noted that while the southern candidate appears clear, the decision on a northern counterpart will be crucial for the opposition’s chances.

Udenta also linked electoral outcomes to economic realities, suggesting that worsening living conditions could influence voter sentiment against the current administration, as citizens assess their situation compared to previous years.

His comments come amid ongoing efforts by opposition figures to form a coalition ahead of 2027, with parties like the African Democratic Congress being considered as a possible platform. Key figures such as Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi are also part of these discussions.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress continues to consolidate its structure nationwide in preparation for the next election cycle.
