British boxer Lawrence Okolie has recorded an adverse finding in an anti-doping test just days before his planned bout, according to his promoter, Queensberry Promotions.

The 33-year-old former cruiserweight world champion was due to face Tony Yoka, France’s 2016 Olympic super heavyweight champion, in Paris on Saturday.

In a statement, Queensberry said the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association notified them on Monday about the adverse result from a test conducted ahead of the event. The promoter added that further updates regarding the fight would be announced later.

Okolie responded to the development, stating that there was no wrongdoing. He explained that after suffering a bicep injury last year, he sustained another injury to his elbow on the same arm during his current training camp, for which he received treatment.

He added that he would cooperate fully with relevant authorities and expressed confidence that any investigation would clear his name. He also said he would not be making further comments for now.

Since moving up to the heavyweight division at the end of 2024, Okolie has fought three times and won all his bouts. He is currently ranked seventh in the division by Boxrec, with a professional record of 23 wins, including 17 knockouts, and one defeat.

Following the test result, a press conference scheduled in Paris to promote the fight was cancelled. Promoters are considering the possibility of finding a replacement opponent for Yoka, who has a professional record of 15 wins and three losses.
