Suspected gunmen launched a late-night attack on students at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ibogun Campus near Ifo in Ogun State, leaving several students injured and properties stolen.

The incident, which began around midnight and stretched into the early hours of Saturday, involved more than a dozen armed attackers. The group reportedly invaded multiple hostels, firing shots and robbing students of phones, laptops, and other personal belongings.

A social media user, Jinadu Michael Mabayomije, shared accounts indicating that the attackers operated for hours without immediate resistance, injuring several students and leaving many traumatised. Visible traces believed to be blood stains were reportedly seen on hostel walls and floors following the attack.

Residents of Ibogun described the night as chaotic, with continuous gunfire forcing students to flee for safety. Some victims sustained injuries while trying to escape or resist the attackers.

Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that an investigation had commenced. He added that the Divisional Police Officer of the Ibogun Division and the Area Commander had visited the scene to assess the situation and reassure students and residents.
