The African Democratic Congress has urged the Supreme Court of Nigeria to deliver an urgent judgment on its ongoing leadership dispute, warning that delays could threaten its participation in the 2027 elections.
In a letter dated April 28, 2026, addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the party said the appeal—heard on April 22—remains pending with no date fixed for judgment.
The case involves David Mark, Nafiu Bala Gombe, and other respondents, with the dispute already affecting the party’s internal structure.
The ADC said actions linked to Independent National Electoral Commission, following a lower court ruling, have led to the withdrawal of recognition of its leadership, creating uncertainty within the party.
Its counsel, Shuaibu E. Aruwa (SAN), warned that without a prompt ruling, the party risks missing key deadlines tied to the 2027 electoral timetable.
He added that continued delay could disenfranchise supporters and prevent the party from meeting statutory requirements needed to contest the elections.
The party appealed for expedited judicial action, stressing that in the current situation, delayed judgment could undermine both its readiness and broader democratic participation.
