President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially thrown his weight behind Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, endorsing him as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus governorship candidate in the state.

The endorsement was disclosed in a statement shared on Wednesday via the official X (formerly Twitter) account of presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, which read:“President Tinubu formally endorses the Lagos APC consensus governorship candidate Obafemi Hamzat at a meeting with members of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council, led by Tajudeen Olusi and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

”The decision followed a high-level meeting involving top stakeholders of the Lagos APC, including members of the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC), widely regarded as the party’s highest decision-making body in the state.

The move marks a major step in the party’s build-up to the next governorship election, reinforcing internal agreement around Hamzat’s candidacy.

Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor, is considered a key figure in Lagos politics and governance, with deep-rooted ties to the APC leadership structure in the state.
