Donald Trump has warned that the United States could resume military strikes against Iran if ongoing diplomatic efforts break down, as both sides cautiously explore a new agreement framework through indirect negotiations.

Speaking on the situation, Trump indicated that any perceived violation by Tehran could trigger immediate action. “If they misbehave… it’s a possibility,” he said, while noting that he is still awaiting the final wording of a proposed deal.

According to Iranian officials, the framework being discussed would adopt a phased approach—starting with maritime and sanctions-related issues before addressing more sensitive nuclear matters. Central to the proposal is the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which has faced prolonged restrictions affecting global oil shipments.

The proposal reportedly also includes sanctions relief, release of frozen Iranian assets, and a reduction of U.S. military presence near Iran. However, Trump has expressed dissatisfaction with the current terms, arguing that Iran has not faced sufficient consequences for its actions.

Although the United States and Israel had earlier paused coordinated military operations, no formal agreement has been reached to end tensions.

While Iran continues to insist its nuclear programme is peaceful, Washington maintains that any deal must ensure Tehran cannot develop nuclear weapons—leaving negotiations delicate and uncertain.
