Pras Michel has reported to a federal prison in Arizona to begin serving a 14-year sentence following his conviction in a case involving illegal foreign political donations in the United States.

Federal prison records confirm the 53-year-old entered a low-security correctional facility after being found guilty in 2023 on charges including conspiracy and acting as an unregistered foreign agent.

Prosecutors said Michel was involved in channeling foreign funds into the 2012 re-election campaign of former US President Barack Obama and later attempted to influence a federal investigation linked to the case.

Authorities alleged that he received over $120 million from Malaysian businessman Jho Low and helped route portions of the funds through intermediaries. Low has denied any wrongdoing.

Michel’s spokesperson, Erica Dumas, said he has begun serving his sentence while continuing to pursue legal challenges. She described the moment as difficult for his family but said the legal process is ongoing.

Before his conviction, Michel was widely known as a founding member of the hip-hop group Fugees alongside Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, achieving global success and multiple Grammy Awards.
