Nigerian Army says troops under Operation HADIN KAI repelled a coordinated attack by Islamic State West Africa Province on the 27 Brigade headquarters in Buni Gari.
The attack happened in the early hours of May 8, with insurgents advancing from multiple directions, including Ganinga Junction.
Troops held their ground, killed about 50 attackers, and recovered weapons and ammunition. Air support also carried out strikes on fleeing fighters.
Two soldiers were killed, while some equipment sustained minor damage.
The army said the base was not breached and follow-up operations are ongoing to track escaping militants.
