Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau on Wednesday praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for fostering unity and ensuring the peaceful conduct of ongoing All Progressives Congress primaries.

Speaking to journalists upon returning to Abuja from Kano—where he emerged as the consensus candidate for Kano North Senatorial District—Barau described the process as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to internal democracy and party cohesion.

He noted that the adoption of consensus arrangements across several states has helped ease tensions and minimise conflicts among party members ahead of the general elections.

Barau attributed the party’s growing stability to Tinubu’s political experience and grassroots understanding, saying the president has continued to guide party leaders toward reconciliation and unity.

According to him, the consensus model is aimed at creating a conducive environment for candidate emergence while preventing disputes that could weaken the party before the polls.

“The credit goes to Mr President, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and leader of the APC, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Consensus is based on the premise of encouraging party unity and creating a good atmosphere for the emergence of candidates so that by the time we go into the general elections, there will not be much problem.”

Barau also commended governors and key stakeholders within the APC for aligning with the president’s reconciliation efforts, highlighting the role of Ibrahim Masari, Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, in promoting harmony among party members nationwide.

He expressed optimism that the peaceful primaries would strengthen the APC ahead of next year’s elections and enhance its chances at the polls, adding that the process would ultimately consolidate unity within the ruling party and lead to improved electoral outcomes across the country.
