Justice Jude Onwuzuruike of the FCT High Court in Apo, Abuja, has fixed May 25 to determine whether Tunde Ayeni, former chairman of Skye Bank Plc, will be granted bail in his ongoing alleged corruption trial.
The date was set after hearing arguments from both defence and prosecution, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission prosecuting Ayeni on a 17-count charge bordering on an alleged ₦15.6 billion fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Ayeni’s counsel, Dele Adesina (SAN), argued that the offences are bailable and noted that the defendant had earlier been granted administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission before a remand order was issued, while the prosecution opposed the application and urged the court to deny bail.
Following submissions from both sides, the court adjourned proceedings to May 25 for its ruling.
