The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria is ramping up its cultural outreach efforts by expanding the K-Heritage Festival, a platform designed to deepen ties between Nigeria and South Korea through traditional arts and cultural engagement.

Now extended to Abuja after its debut in Lagos, the festival aims to move beyond the global appeal of K-Pop by introducing Nigerians to the roots of Korean culture—featuring indigenous music, dance, and live performances.

Speaking at the event, organisers highlighted a growing shift in interest among Nigerian audiences, who are increasingly exploring Korea’s traditional heritage alongside modern entertainment. Performances by the duo Sorichum brought this vision to life, blending music and dance with hands-on workshops where participants learned fan dance techniques and how to play the traditional Janggu drum.

The initiative reflects the broader global rise of the Korean Wave, or Hallyu, which South Korea has strategically used to expand its cultural influence worldwide. In Nigeria, this influence is becoming more diverse, with rising participation in language classes, cultural festivals, and artistic exchanges.

Organisers say the expansion is just the beginning, with plans underway for more workshops, traditional festivals, and future competitions, alongside continued K-Pop events to maintain youth engagement.

Overall, the programme underscores a growing cultural bridge between both nations—driven not just by entertainment, but by deeper appreciation of heritage and shared cultural experiences.
