Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are intensifying efforts to build a united political front ahead of the 2027 elections, signalling a possible joint presidential ticket aimed at challenging the ruling establishment.
At a summit held in Abuja, members of the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements announced plans to mobilise grassroots support and raise funds—targeting ₦60 million—to secure a shared nomination platform for both leaders.
Organisers framed the move as a strategic response to growing public demand for credible leadership, arguing that a combined ticket could strengthen voter appeal across regional and political divides.
Representatives of both camps emphasised the need for integrity-driven leadership, warning against political practices such as vote-buying, post-election defections, and manipulation, which they said continue to erode public trust.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Democratic Congress sought to ease tensions within its ranks, assuring aspirants that candidate selection for 2027 would follow a transparent and inclusive process. The party also dismissed rumours of predetermined candidates, stressing that all qualified aspirants would be given a fair chance through primaries or consensus arrangements.
Party stakeholders further encouraged unity to avoid internal disputes, noting that poorly managed primaries in the past had led to violence, litigation, and weakened opposition strength.
With early alignments already taking shape, the development points to a broader effort among opposition groups to consolidate influence and present a more formidable challenge in the next general election cycle.
