The Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has declared that its governorship ticket for the 2027 election remains open to all qualified aspirants across the state.
The party leadership, led by Dr. Johnpaul Anih, stated that there is no zoning arrangement guiding the emergence of its governorship candidate and that no part of the state has been favoured ahead of others.
According to the party, the decision was taken to ensure that only capable individuals with the strength and capacity to win elections and unseat the APC-led government emerge as candidates.
The position of the party was explained by the State Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Ugwueze, while addressing journalists after a meeting of the State Working Committee held over the weekend.
Ugwueze stressed that every qualified citizen of Enugu State, regardless of senatorial district, is free to contest for the party’s governorship ticket in 2027.
“This decision is in line with our determination to win the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State. We are not prepared to sacrifice competence and capacity because of zoning arrangements.
“Our primary objective is to take over the Lion Building, and to achieve that, we must utilise every available strategy and opportunity,” he stated.
The party maintained that competence, electability and leadership ability would remain the major considerations in choosing its governorship candidate ahead of the election.
