The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Nafiu Bala Gombe has formally adopted Chief Chris Uba as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election after concluding its nationwide primary elections.

The party announced that the presidential ticket was reserved for the South as part of efforts to promote balance, inclusiveness and equitable representation within the federation.

Speaking during the presentation of the party’s candidates, Gombe said the selection process followed internal democratic procedures and was conducted in accordance with electoral laws and the party’s constitution.

According to him, three aspirants initially sought the ADC presidential ticket, but two eventually stepped aside and threw their support behind Chris Uba, paving the way for his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate.

The ADC leadership described the consensus arrangement as a strategic move aimed at strengthening party unity ahead of the 2027 elections while avoiding unnecessary internal divisions.

Beyond the presidential race, the party also unveiled governorship candidates for 29 states, including contenders in major political battlegrounds such as Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun, Delta, Benue, Borno and Zamfara.

Party officials stated that all governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly primaries were successfully completed without major disputes, adding that the process reflected the party’s commitment to transparency and democratic participation.

Gombe expressed confidence that the newly unveiled candidates would offer Nigerians a credible political alternative, stressing that the ADC is positioning itself as a serious contender in the next electoral cycle.

With Chris Uba now officially carrying the party’s presidential banner, the ADC says it will intensify consultations, grassroots mobilisation and nationwide campaigns as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
