Peter Obi has appealed to members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress to accept the outcomes of the party’s primaries and rally behind its broader political vision.
Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja, Obi urged unsuccessful aspirants to put aside disappointment and focus on strengthening the party ahead of future elections. He stressed that democratic contests naturally produce winners and losers, but what matters most is the ability of members to remain united afterward.
According to Obi, the NDC has made remarkable organisational progress within a short period, successfully conducting congresses, conventions and primaries in just a few months. He cautioned that internal divisions could weaken the party’s mission of presenting Nigerians with an alternative model of leadership based on accountability, inclusion and service.
National Chairman Moses Cleopas described the party’s rapid growth as unprecedented, while National Leader Seriake Dickson praised members for sustaining the party despite doubts about its survival.
Dickson encouraged aspirants who lost in the primaries not to lose hope, noting that political success often requires patience and perseverance. Party leaders maintained that unity and collective commitment would be crucial as the NDC prepares for future electoral contests.
