Manchester City have reportedly launched a British-record bid to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest as they seek to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new season.

According to reports, City’s latest verbal offer is worth £106 million, with performance-related add-ons potentially pushing the total package beyond £120 million. Forest are understood to value Anderson at £120 million before any bonuses, making negotiations finely balanced.

The proposed fee would surpass the £105 million paid by Arsenal to West Ham United for Declan Rice in 2023, setting a new British transfer record. However, it would still fall short of the overall British-club transfer record of £125 million, reportedly paid by Liverpool for Alexander Isak.

City’s interest follows the rejection of an earlier offer believed to be around £85 million. The club views Anderson as a long-term midfield solution after his impressive performances since joining Forest from Newcastle United in 2024.

The 23-year-old remains under contract with Forest until 2029 and is also attracting interest from Manchester United. Should negotiations fail, City are reportedly keeping an eye on Sandro Tonali as a possible alternative.

Strengthening the centre of midfield has become a priority for City following the departure of Bernardo Silva, and Anderson is believed to be one of the club’s top transfer targets this summer.

If completed, the move would rank among the most expensive transfers in football history and further underline City’s determination to refresh their squad for another title challenge.
