The United States made a powerful start to their home World Cup journey with a commanding 4–1 win over Paraguay, putting on a high-energy performance that thrilled fans and celebrities in attendance, including David Beckham and Tom Cruise.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team set the tone early, forcing an own goal when Damian Bobadilla turned a Weston McKennie cross into his own net. The hosts continued to dominate possession and chances, with Folarin Balogun initially denied by an offside flag before eventually getting his reward.

The Monaco forward opened his account after a well-worked attacking move finished by Christian Pulisic’s assist from the left. He struck again just before halftime, showing composure inside the box as he weaved past defenders and fired into the top corner after being set up by Malik Tillman.

Paraguay briefly responded in the second half through Mauricio, who capitalised on space in the box to pull one back. However, any hopes of a comeback were crushed late on when substitute Giovanni Reyna produced a brilliant curling finish to restore the two-goal cushion and seal the victory.

USA’s only concern came when captain Christian Pulisic was withdrawn at half-time due to a calf issue, though the coach later expressed optimism about his availability going forward.

Pochettino praised both the players and supporters, describing the team’s display as only the beginning of their tournament ambition, while Paraguay’s coach admitted his side were clearly outplayed in every department.

The win gives the United States a strong opening statement as they aim for a deep run on home soil.
