Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has reflected on seven years of his administration, highlighting achievements in security, reconstruction, education and healthcare while pledging to consolidate peace and development before leaving office in 2027.

In his Democracy Day address marking Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, Zulum described insecurity as Borno’s greatest challenge but noted that ongoing military operations and government interventions were gradually restoring stability across the state.

The governor pointed to the recent rescue of 434 women and children from Boko Haram captivity as a sign of progress in the fight against insurgency. He commended security agencies for their efforts and thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting security initiatives in the region.

Zulum reiterated his administration’s commitment to securing the release of all remaining captives, including the Chibok schoolgirls and victims of other abductions.

Reviewing his tenure since assuming office in 2019, the governor said nearly two million displaced persons and conflict-affected residents had been resettled through various humanitarian and recovery programmes.

He also highlighted major investments in education, including the establishment of more than 104 mega schools and over 20 Higher Islamic Colleges, alongside scholarship schemes, teacher development and vocational training initiatives.

In the health sector, Zulum cited the construction and upgrade of hospitals and healthcare facilities across the state, including the near-completion of the Kashim Ibrahim Teaching Hospital and the establishment of additional nursing colleges.

Looking ahead to the final year of his administration, the governor pledged to intensify efforts in security, agriculture, infrastructure, economic empowerment and social welfare, expressing confidence that Borno is firmly on the path to lasting peace, stability and prosperity.
