A High Court in Katsina State has sentenced a woman, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, to death by hanging after finding her guilty of assisting terrorist activities through the transportation of ammunition intended for armed bandits.

Mukhtar was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) during a security operation at Jibia Motor Park. Investigators alleged that she was caught conveying 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition destined for a notorious bandit commander known as Ado, who reportedly operates from the Dunburum Forest area of Zamfara State.

Following her arrest, the DSS filed terrorism-related charges against her before the Katsina State High Court. The case was presided over by Justice A. B. Bawale, who heard evidence and witness testimonies presented by the prosecution.

After reviewing the material before the court, the judge ruled that the prosecution had successfully established its case beyond reasonable doubt. The court consequently found Mukhtar guilty of aiding terrorism through the supply of ammunition.

Based on the provisions of the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021, the court sentenced her to death by hanging.

The judgment underscores ongoing efforts by security agencies and the judiciary to combat terrorism, banditry, and the illegal movement of weapons in Nigeria’s northwestern region.
