Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has attributed the state’s ongoing infrastructure transformation to increased revenues available to states following key economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking during a visit by members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a delegation led by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga and presidential aide Sunday Dare, Mbah said recent federal policies have significantly strengthened the financial capacity of state governments.

According to the governor, reforms including fuel subsidy removal, exchange rate harmonisation, and tax adjustments have expanded the resources available to states, enabling them to execute large-scale development projects that were previously difficult to fund.

Mbah noted that in the past, much of the funds received by states were consumed by salary obligations, leaving limited room for infrastructure investments. He said the improved fiscal environment now allows Enugu State to channel substantial resources into roads, healthcare, education, and security.

The governor also pointed to the federal student loan initiative as a programme that has eased the burden on state governments by reducing pressure on scholarship funding.

Highlighting ongoing projects, Mbah referenced the Smart Green Schools initiative, which aims to provide modern learning facilities across communities, as well as the Enugu International Specialist Hospital, a major healthcare project designed to enhance access to specialised medical services and reduce the need for treatment abroad.

He further stated that investments in technology-driven security systems have improved safety and encouraged economic activities across the state.

Mbah maintained that the scale of development currently underway in Enugu would have been difficult to achieve without the policy decisions taken by the federal government.

During the inspection tour, the delegation visited several projects, including the Abakpa Flyover Interchange, the reconstruction of the Enugu–Onitsha–Port Harcourt concrete pavement road, the dualisation of the Enugu International Airport Road, the state’s tractor assembly plant, Smart City development site, and the specialist hospital equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities.

Onanuga, who addressed the delegation, said federal development initiatives are being implemented across all regions of the country and stressed that cooperation between federal and state governments is yielding visible results in infrastructure and public service delivery.

The visit formed part of efforts to assess projects linked to the Renewed Hope Agenda and evaluate how increased allocations to states are being utilised for development.
