The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has voiced serious concern over the worsening security situation in the country, highlighting persistent incidents of banditry, insurgency, kidnapping, and attacks on schools as major threats to national stability.

In a statement issued to commemorate the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1448 AH, the Council congratulated Muslims worldwide while calling for urgent and collective efforts to tackle insecurity and economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.

The organisation described the continued abduction of students and teachers as alarming and stressed the need for a coordinated national response involving government, security agencies, community leaders, and citizens.

Addressing growing social tensions, the Council urged Nigerians to resist attempts to fuel ethnic and religious divisions, noting that insecurity and economic difficulties affect people across all backgrounds.

The NSCIA also expressed concern over rising inflation, unemployment, and the increasing cost of living, calling on government authorities to complement economic reforms with targeted relief measures and policies that support vulnerable households.

While acknowledging ongoing efforts by government to improve security and the economy, the Council maintained that lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, accountability, good governance, and a stronger commitment to fighting corruption.

The body further encouraged political leaders to place national unity above partisan interests and called on religious and traditional leaders to continue promoting dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.

As Muslims begin the new Hijrah year, the Council urged increased devotion, charitable acts, and prayers for Nigeria’s peace, stability, and development.
