The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a masquerade identified as Asoleke over the alleged killing of 24-year-old Sefiu Kehinde during a traditional masquerade procession in the Labiran area of Ibadan.
According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday after the victim was allegedly attacked with axes and cutlasses by the masquerade and some of his followers, leaving him with fatal injuries.
Officers from the Mapo Division responded to a distress call and rushed the victim to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The body was later released to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites.
Police said the crime scene had been documented and confirmed that while the Asoleke masquerade is in custody, four suspected accomplices remain at large.
The Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a full investigation, with authorities pledging to arrest the fleeing suspects and ensure everyone involved is brought to justice.
