The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has started aerial surveillance patrols across the state in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force Airwing Command as part of intensified efforts to combat crime and strengthen public safety, officials say.

The initiative was launched on Monday when a patrol aircraft conducted its first flight over Lagos Island and parts of the mainland in a low-altitude surveillance operation that authorities describe as a demonstration of the new security framework’s reach and responsiveness.

Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, Executive Secretary and CEO of the LSSTF, said the patrols are intended to boost intelligence-led policing, monitor crime flashpoints and support rapid coordinated responses across the state. He described the aerial operation as a “strategic investment in modern security infrastructure” designed to deter criminal activity and enhance overall safety for residents and businesses.

The aircraft is expected to offer real-time aerial insights that help authorities detect and respond to security threats more effectively. The patrols will be conducted continuously and form an integrated part of the state’s evolving security strategy, Ogunsan said.

Commissioner of Police Airwing Command, CP Martin Nwogoh, emphasised that aerial support will also be available for rescue missions and troop deployment when necessary, while Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, said the flights will improve coordination between air, land and water security operations.

Authorities urged Lagos residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies and to remain vigilant. They stressed that the patrols are specifically aimed at ensuring a secure environment without disrupting lawful activities within the state.
