The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed concerns over security arrangements at its Katsina orientation camp, citing the absence of a dedicated entrance and clear separation from the adjoining state-owned Youth Craft Village.
Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch “B” Stream I corps members, Katsina NYSC Coordinator Evans Okwor appealed to the state government to create a separate access gate and properly demarcate the camp. He said the current shared entrance with other state agencies limits the scheme’s ability to fully control movement into the facility and comply with national security protocols.
Okwor noted that the request has become more urgent due to growing security challenges across the country. He also pointed out that while female hostels have seen some improvements, the male hostels remain in poor condition, affecting the camp’s capacity to accommodate corps members.
Despite the challenges, he reaffirmed NYSC’s commitment to youth development and community service, while thanking the state government and security agencies for their support.
Meanwhile, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda urged the 1,130 corps members posted to Katsina to avoid activities capable of threatening peace and national unity. Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Surajo Yazid Abukur, the governor warned against cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, religious extremism and ethnic intolerance.
He encouraged the corps members to uphold good character, integrate with their host communities, and contribute meaningfully to local development throughout their service year.
